Best BBQ

Did you know that...

there is such a thing as Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce?

I didn't either, but let me tell you it is great!

Recipe for BBQ pork
Put a pork roast in the crock pot with two cans of Dr. Pepper and cook on low for 6-8 hours until you can pull it apart with a fork.
Pour out the Dr. Pepper and shred the pork with a fork.
Add 1 bottle of Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce and 1 bottle of your favorite honey BBQ sauce (I use a honey hickory sauce).
Cook for one more hour in the crock pot.

This is one of the best BBQ pork I have ever tasted! (It might be because I love Dr. Pepper and anything associated with it...I just found Dr. Pepper otter pops! They are heaven and only 35 calories).

Thirty Five

Today I turned Thirty Five.

There is a phenomenon that occurs in your thirties. Your body starts to feel old. Your face starts getting wrinkly and older looking. Teenagers start to look way to young to be in high school or driving. And yet mentally you don't feel old at all. I keep waiting for the maturity and wiseness to kick in. For my brain to catch up with my old body.

I had a moment this week where I felt extra super old. Brynn ran out to the bus stop without saying goodbye in the morning. (This is a no-no at my house. We always tell each other goodbye and that we love each other before leaving the house). I went out to the porch and called for Brynn to come and see me for a minute. She gave me an annoyed look and said, "What do you want Mom?" With that "you are so annoying," voice. She stomped over to me and I quietly told her that she forgot to say goodbye and I loved her and hoped she had a good day. She rolled her eyes at me.

Rolled her eyes at me! That makes me feel so old. I am the old uncool mother who annoys her daughter in front of her friends at the bus stop. Remember when you were a kid and you thought your mom was so uncool? Well it looks like I am that mom now. I don't feel old enough to be that kind of mom yet, but apparently I am. I am officially old and uncool.

Brett took me to Boise Idaho for a Bare Naked Ladies concert for my birthday. It was a really fun trip and concert. My wonderful in-laws watched our kids for us. It was a great birthday weekend. Even if I am old and uncool now.

Lots of things about last week and weekend

* I went away with some friends to a condo for 3 1/2 days. It was heaven. No kids, husbands, chores, or worries. Just awesome friends, food, games, and massive amounts of Dr. Mario.

Ivy, Kathy, Jamie, Me, Jenny, Jana
(And don't pay any attention to the piles of nickels. We aren't gambling or anything. I would NEVER do something like that!)

*Gavin scored his first goal this year in soccer. And it wasn't raining on Saturday for soccer games. I think this is the first game this season with sun.

*Brynn had a piano recital on Saturday. I didn't get any pictures. But she did move me to tears. She plays so beautifully!

*After Brynn's recital we went down south and met a good chunk of my family at Kangaroo Zoo. The kids had lots of fun with cousins and bouncy slides.

We met our new nephew Sam (Anna and Mike's new baby). Cute little red-head. Alec couldn't get enough of him.

Me with 3 of my 5 sisters. Elizabeth, Rachel, Me, Anna, and baby Sam.

Friends, Family, Good food, Good laughs, soccer games, piano recitals, cousins = Great week!

Happy Birthday in Heaven

It is my Dad's birthday today. I don't talk about him much. It is a subject very near and dear to my heart. Just thinking about him makes me cry.

My dad died when I was exactly 2 months old. He was 24 years old.

While I never knew my dad in this life I feel his presence around me. I love him. I miss him.

He would have been 59 today.

Because I am always a day late and a dollar short...

(I really meant to do this yesterday)

I just wanted to Thank...

for making me a mother (and making me smile).

I love you more than you will EVER know.

"A Major Award"

Brett didn't want me to brag about him on here, but I never was a good listener.

Brett got an outstanding achievement award today at work. (He saved the day on an aircraft carrier last fall). I was able to go to the award luncheon with him. He works so hard for our family and we are very proud of him.

cute fonts

I love different fonts (I wish I knew how to change them on here, if anybody knows let me know).

If anyone else loves and has a need for cute fonts I found a place to get a bunch at once. Go here

Fire!

Sometimes when we cook the fire alarm goes off in the kitchen. (I promise I am not burning anything. Our stove just sucks).

Wherever Alec is as soon as he hears the fire alarm he panics, drops what he is doing, and runs for the back door. Even when we tell him it is okay, nothing will stop him from running out the back door.

It is actually kind of funny. He will bolt up the stairs and make a beeline for the door and nothing can stop him. The panic and determination on that kids face is priceless.

(At least we know one of our kids knows the fire escape plan!)
