Out of the mouths of babes

Right in the middle of Wal-Mart Alec says very loudly, "Mom yours are much bigger than mine," while pulling up his shirt and pointing to his chest.

Thankful Thursdays

I am turning Thankful Thursday around today. I am having a crazy busy, grumpy day, not feeling very thankful at the moment, so I am passing the fun on...

I want to hear what all of you are thankful for today. Leave a comment and let me know.

Deep thoughts by Sarah #2

Last week we saw the movie 500 days of Summer (highly recommend it). At the end of the movie the guy was talking about how there are a handful of days we remember, but most days are not memorable.

This is so true. There are big events we remember. These are days we remember with clarity: The birth of children; the death of people; your wedding; your first kiss; news of an illness; graduation; your child's first day of school; vacations, etc.

Do you remember your fifth kiss, or your child's 12th day of school? Probably not. Most days are not remembered, but some days are.

Some days are remembered by lots of people: 9/11; elections; deaths of celebraties; natural disasters. And there are days that are only remembered by you: your first date with your significant other; the day you found out you were pregnant; something someone said to you that touched your heart.

Today is one of those days that is only memorable to Brett and I. Today is the day I was due with our baby who we miscarried back in February. The little peanut who we saw clearly without a heartbeat. Today is a hard day. A day I will never forget.

Look What I Can Do!

We have been trying to teach Alec to ride a bike all summer. It scared him too much and he was just content to ride his scooter. Even with all the little boys in the neighborhood riding without training wheels, he didn't have any desire to learn.

The other day he and Brynn decided to go around the block with Brynn on her bike and Alec on his scooter. Alec came home crying because he couldn't keep up with Brynn. I told him that he needed to learn how to ride a bike if he wanted to keep up with people on bikes.

To my surprise he said, "I want to learn right now." We went out and took his training wheels off (with all intentions of putting them back on when he gave up). I held his shirt in the back to keep him steady and within 20 minutes he was riding all by himself! I couldn't believe it.
I have learned with learning to ride a bike that the child has to have a desire. Once they have a desire they take off.
We are very proud of Alec!

Deep Thoughts by Sarah #1

I was invited by one of my friends to go the park with some of the people in my neighborhood. I went after picking up Alec from school. Most of the moms there had preschoolers and infants. As they talked about what infant formula they use, napping, weaning, potty training, etc, I realized I can't really relate to these moms much any more.

I don't have babies or preschoolers anymore. My biggest problems are not about diapers or spit-up, or finding the binky that fell down somewhere while you are driving anymore. As I listened to these mothers I remember thinking those things were so hard about having kids. Boy was I niave! Those are some of the easy things about having kids now that my kids are getting older and their problems are getting bigger. I am sure if I talked to someone with teen-agers they would think I was very niave about what is to come. I am sure someday that I will look back at my kids problems now and realize they weren't that bad compared.

So I realize I am in a different stage in my life. My kids don't need me physically so much anymore. They can get their own drinks and even their own lunch if they are so inclined. They take their own showers, and use the bathroom by themselves. They run around the block with their friends and can ride their bikes to scouts and piano without me. And they can buckle their seat belts all by themselves! They are starting to have problems with friends and need someone to talk to. These are all good things, just different things.

No more playing with my kids while they are taking their baths, or rocking my small babies to sleep, or walking around the block with a baby or two in the stroller. No more spit up or naps. Change is always hard for me. It is hard for me to let my babies go. I am now in the Tween stage, between babies and teenagers.

Sometimes I wish my kids would just stop growing right now. They are at good ages. Not too much drama, and a lot more independent. (But I do miss my babies sometimes).

Thankful Thursdays

Anytime that someone we love has a birthday on a Thursday I like to include them in Thankful Thursdays because I am very thankful for all the good people in our lives.

Today is our nephew and cousin Jace's Birthday (my brother Spencer's little boy). He is one! I can't believe how fast that went.

Alec talks about Jace on a daily basis. He loves him so much. The rest of us love him so much too. He has the best smile! Happy Birthday Jacer!

Thankful Thursdays

It's Peach Season! We love peaches around here, and can't wait for September and fresh peaches.
