Today was the last day of school. It has made me ask the question, "what did I do with my kids home all day before they started school?" I can't remember. I can garentee that there will be a lot of "I am bored," and "Can I have a popsicle?" and "Why can't I play Nintendo all day long?" It should be a lot of fun!Friday, May 30, 2008

Another Soccer Season
The soccer season ended for my kids last week. We live in a wonderful community that has a lot of programs for kids. One of these is soccer. It lasts for a couple of months in the spring. This year Gavin and Brynn both played. It was fun watching them play.
Gavin sure has come a long way since playing in Kindergarten. This year he was a defender and did an amazing job blocking the ball.
Brynn's team was fun to watch. They would basically stay in a pack and move around the field that way.

A Couple Of The Good People In My Life
(In no particular order)
*Brett--Every year on my birthday my husband takes a day off work and stays home with the kids and gives me a day off. It was my day off yesterday and I had so much fun. I just want him to know how much I love and appreciate him. He is always putting my needs first and is a wonderful husband.
*My mother-in-law Peggy--The last couple of years Peggy has gone with me on my day off. She has taken me shopping and out to lunch. This year we went to a couple stores looking for the perfect little chair for my photography. We found it. She is so fun to be with and I just want to let her know that she means a lot to me.
*My father-in-law Don--I had a photo shoot in Ogden yesterday and I left my camera at my in-laws house. I called them and Don offered to drive it down to me. He is always so willing to help in any way possible. I really appreaciate him.
*My bestest friend Laura--After shopping in the afternoon I met up with my friend Laura and other old college roomate for dinner. We stayed up talking until almost midnight! Laura gets me so well and loves me anyway. I am so glad that I am friends with her. Her friendship for the last 14 years means the world to me.
It was a great day and even though I didn't get home until 1:00 in the morning, it was well worth it.
(If your name isn't on this list it doesn't mean you aren't important to me. It just means I didn't hang out with you yesterday:)

Birthday
It is my birthday today and I am 33! It has been a good day. I have received lots of hugs and kisses from my kids. Brett made me breakfast (one of my favorite things)! Gavin cleaned up the basement just for me! Brynn has told me a hundred times, "Happy Birthday!" and Alec wrote me a cute note and wrapped it all by himself in some birthday wrapping paper.
Brett and the kids got me WiiFit. It is fun so far. You can head butt soccer balls and ski and hoola hoop. I also asked for a punching bag and boxing gloves. (Now don't laugh or I will have to come and punch you in the nose when my arms get all buff). I suppose the idea is to get in better shape this year. ( I just wish my body actually was down with that idea).
I am blessed to have so many amazing family members and friends who have called, e-mailed, sent cards, or stopped by. Here goes another year!

The Canadian Side
I can now rest assured that my Canadian Heritage is being passed onto my kids. Alec just called the cat a "Hoser."

Mother's Day

I am very grateful that I am a Mom to 3 wonderful kids (even though there are days when I want to pull my hair out, and run away screaming! Most of the time it is great being a Mom), I really am blessed.
I have a funny Mother's Day story: So the kids were bringing me my gifts and Alec was getting them off the table and bringing them to me. Well on the last one Gavin decided that he should have a turn bringing me a gift. He was bossy about it and Alec freaked out. Alec wanted to bring me the gift and when he couldn't he got mad. He started throwing a fit and grabbed the gift off of my lap and chucked it across the room. I had to put Alec in time out and give Gavin a lecture about how he could have handled the situation better, which ended up with Gavin in tears that he had ruined Mother's Day. Brett was at a meeting so I had to handle the blow-up myself. I just had to laugh that just because it was Mother's Day doesn't mean the whole loveliness of being a Mother stops!

Everybody Was Kung-fu Fighting...well sort of
So the school called today saying that Brynn hurt herself at recess. Apparently another girl was showing Brynn some Karate moves at school and Brynn tried to do a Karate jump kick and fell backwards onto her arm. She broke it.

Headbands
So Alec has been into wearing headbands lately. He likes to pretend he is a ninja. The other day he put a headband on and went outside to play. When I went to check on him this is what I found:
The funny thing is that he was walking around the neighborhood for a good hour before I noticed. I can imagine what the neighbors were thinking! Great blackmail picture, though. Friday, May 2, 2008
Conditional Love
Alec and I were driving in the car today. Here is some of our conversation:
Mom: "Hey Alec guess what?"
Alec: "What?"
Mom: "I love you!"
Silence
(Alec for some reason never says "I love you" back. He never has, and I don't know why.)
Mom: "Hey Alec, can you say I love you back to me?"
Alec: "No"
Mom: "Why not?"
Alec: "Cause I only will tell you that on Sundays."
Mom: "Makes a lot of sense to me."
Alec: "I know."

Guitar Heroes
Yesterday Brett got out his guitar to practice for a minute. Alec ran and got his guitar that he made at preschool. Alec's guitar is made out of a tissue box, toilet paper tube, and elastics. While Brett practiced, Alec played right along with him. It was a very cute moment. Alec then proceded to write his own songs. He wrote a very nice one about his friend Tucker coming to play.
