One Month

Today it has been a month since my hysterectomy. It has been a month of ups and downs. I am really struggling emotionally. I think this is because I really wanted to have more kids, but can't. And while I am comfortable with the decision to have the hysterectomy, I am still sad that having babies is over for me. Hopefully time will heal this ache in my heart.

Physically I am doing better this past week. I was in a lot of pain for the first 4 weeks, but the last two days have been much better. I am looking forward to Spring and walking outside and finally feeling physically well (it has been a long time coming).

Thankful Thursdays

I have dropped the ball lately on Thankful Thursdays. I am going to start doing this again, but it might not be every week. Consistency is not my strongest asset.

Today I am thankful for the birth of my newest nephew. My sister Anna and her husband Mike had a baby boy on Monday. His name is Sam. Anna and Mike are such good parents and I am so happy for them and their newest addition. (BTW I think this is the 28th grandkid on my side)!

(Mike I stole this picture from your facebook page. Hope that is okay)

The Pros and Cons of Winter

It seems like on every blog I read lately that there is much whining about winter and wanting it to be over. There is definitely spring fever in the air.

I swear I am the only one on the planet who doesn't want winter to be over. I enjoy winter. I have a lot of reasons for this. Here is my pro and con list:

Pros:
1. No bugs. There are no spiders, ants, earwigs in my house and no stupid hornets that just won't die, outside on every nook and cranny of my house.

2. No gardening. I hate gardening. It is just an endless cycle of weeding and watering. Mostly I give up and by the end of summer weeds have taken over. I can't keep up.

3. No mowing the lawn. (Though I have never mowed a lawn in my life) it is a pain for Brett to find time to mow and weedeat the lawn every week.

4. No sweating. I am a sweating fool. I am always hot and the summer just makes me miserable. I hate sweating and in the winter I don't sweat. In the summer I sweat just sitting still. My feet are also sweaty and annoying in the summer. In the winter...no sweaty feet.

5. Bulky clothes. I love sweaters, hoodies, and long pants. It is so much easier to cover up those massive trouble spots of mine in the winter. In the summer I have to wear short sleeves which show off my lovely flappy arms, and shorts which show off my lovely veracious veins.

6. No reason to be out in a swimming suit for the whole world to see.

7. Sleeping soundly at night because it is cold in my house. I hate sleeping in the heat. I sleep much better in the bitter cold.

8. Life slows down. Especially in January and February. There are minimal family gatherings, school gatherings, church gatherings. Fewer commitments and less stress (at least for me).

9. Aggie games. Basketball season is in full swing over the winter. I get to go out with my husband a few times a month and meet up with Brett's family for Aggie Basketball games. Way fun.

Cons:
1. Driving in snow
2. My boys constantly jumping off the walls
3. I can't work out/walk outside
4. Seriously that is all I can think of.

We are in BIG trouble

At Brynn and Gavin's school they have a Valentine's tea party. The kids dress up in their nice clothes. They teach the kids etiquette and then pair a boy up with a girl. The boys pull the chairs out for the girls and bring them punch and cookies.

Here is the difference between boys and girls:
For the last two years Gavin has been hoping he will be sick on this day of school.

Brynn on the other hand has planned for this day all week. She picked out her dress and then picked out another dress, and then finally settled on a skirt. She also had very specific ideas about how she wanted her hair done, and what shoes to wear.
She also "likes" this boy in her class and has been really hoping she would be paired with him. She came home today all excited because she was paired up with this boy, Parker.

She has been so giddy about this. She also told me that she wrote Parker a note asking him if he liked her.

Really? She is only 8. We are in trouble. I think it might be time to invest in some guns.

Super Hugs

Alec keeps coming up to me and saying, "Super Hugs to the rescue!" then he gives me a great big hug.

I think it is working. I feel much better after every hug.

swearing

As parents sometimes you say things that your kids pick up. Sometimes you don't realize what you are saying until your kids repeat it.

Every once in awhile a couple of certain swear words leave our mouths (usually when injury or something breaks), (Oh and I am not a perfect parent, and yes sometimes I accidentally swear in front of my kids).

Gavin and Brynn have not ever repeated any swear words their parents might say. This is a relief.

However, the other day Alec was dancing around saying "Dang it, Dang it (the swear word equivalent)." I told him that was a bad word that we shouldn't say.

He said, "How could it be bad? Dad says it!"

Don't you love it when you kids call you on things, especially the naughty things?

****P.S*** Brett couldn't believe I "outed" him on this blog. I did it because it was funny and I realized I didn't explain why this was funny. Brett hardly ever swears and I don't think I have ever even heard him say "Dang it." It is funny he was called on it because I honestly don't think Alec heard that word from him.
